New Age Parenting

Bringing up a baby requires a lot of lots of things. Our parents have brought us up in a certain way and the best they could. Certain ideas and beliefs have been carried over for ages on how to bring up the child and what is considered the best.

This generation has a lot of material available online and have their own beliefs as what is good for their baby. And these beliefs are not random but based on WHO guidelines and research. It is not surprising that these beliefs are not in sync with what our parents believe in. This can lead to clashes, stress for the new mother and the poor baby stuck in between!!

Facebook has many support groups and I am a part of many of them. The information you can get from peers is a lot and the admins ensure that everything is factual. Breastfeeding is one of the most discussed point...the problems encountered during this phase and the pressure to wean is immense on new mothers. I have seen this group giving actual and real support to mothers in a successful BF journey.

Babywearing is something I am super happy to have been a part of. It is gaining popularity slowly. The types of carriers available, the types of wraps, methods of wrapping and the need to have ergonomics involved in it..immense!! Its mind boggling to find that certain carriers are sold for thousands of $$!!

All said and done, parenting is something that is very personal and each one has their unique way of bringing up their child. Well meaning advice comes often, you can choose to listen and accept or forget. The means and support is available when needed!
